EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF PATIENTS WITH CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS OF GESTATIONAL TOXOPLASMOSIS FROM 2019 TO 2022.
Introdução
Gestational toxoplasmosis, an infection transmitted from the mother to the fetus during pregnancy, is a public health concern due to the severe complications that can affect the neurological and visual development of newborns. Understanding the clinical and epidemiological profile of these patients is crucial for implementing preventive measures and effective control strategies. In Brazil, studies and epidemiological surveillance have been conducted to monitor the prevalence and risk factors associated with gestational toxoplasmosis. Investigating these patients allows for the analysis of the case fatality rates and the identification of potential risk factors.
Objetivo
Analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with confirmed diagnosis of gestational toxoplasmosis in Tocantins. Data from the Ministry of Health will be explored for this study, with the focus on contributing to the improvement of prevention strategies, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment, aiming to reduce the impact of this infection on pregnant women and newborns.
Método
This article presents a statistical study conducted in the North region, focusing on the state of Tocantins, using data from the SUS database (DATASUS and SIH/SUS). Relevant data for the study, such as the number of notifications and deaths caused by gestational toxoplasmosis from 2019 to 2022, were selected, including patient information such as sex and race, to analyze populations with higher incidences.
Resultados
According to the SUS database, in Tocantins, 297 cases were reported between 2019 and 2022. Of these, 150 cases occurred in males and 147 cases in females. The predominant race was Brown, with a total of 246 cases, followed by White, with 27 confirmed cases. Among the reported cases, the year 2022 saw a record number of notifications with 100 confirmed cases. Additionally, 3 deaths were reported during these years, occurring in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Conclusão
Based on the results obtained in this research, it is possible to observe the relevance and importance of monitoring and understanding this public health condition. The data show that the Brown race was the most affected, suggesting that congenital toxoplasmosis may be associated with socioeconomic and cultural factors. These tragic outcomes highlight the severity of gestational toxoplasmosis and the importance of early interventions and appropriate treatment to minimize risks for affected newborns.
